PROLOGUE

…yes back to the prologue. After last week’s rude interruption normal service has been resumed. Mickey Fliss has been banished to Berlin for a weekend of depravity that would shock Caligula (otherwise known as a stag weekend) and your regular blogger Dickiebliss has been restored to his rightful position. Now…talking of shocking, this week The Kickers were up against a team so offensively named that this blog will not give them the satisfaction of a name check and so will be  referred to simply as The Plebs.

Prologue

Ah yes…the prologue. Do you recall Up Pompeii the 70’s sitcom starring Frankie Howerd? His character Lurcio always began each episode with a prologue – a “to camera” piece that was seldom concluded and often interrupted. I think I know how he felt…who’s this coming to interrupt my flow now? Oh God it’s that dreadful Mickeyfliss bloke…

Exit Dickiebliss stage left, enter Mickeyfliss stage right…

Kickers 10 – 2 Theeb FC ( Wed night futsal league)

It’s Wednesday night…. it’s 8pm….it must be futsal time!

And indeed it was. After a lengthy delay due to Easter, the Kickers were back on court ready to go head -to -head with Theeb FC who might sound like a character from the 2000 AD comic but are actually a football futsal team.

This week, Dickiebliss broke all his blogging own rules by asking the players to tell him what they considered their personal highlights of their performances were, rather than just making it all up like he normally does. Well then, let’s see who can spot whose version of the truth is written below….

Two in a week – now that ‘s what I call prolific (Fernando Torres would kill for such a strike rate).

If you want to see more from Mickey Fliss in the future, please make a positive comment on the blog to this effect.

However if you are traumatised by the absence of Dickiebliss, please note that a helpline will be available soon for distressed subscribers to this blog.

The first colour edition of Match of the Day was shown on 15 November 1969, between Liverpool and West Ham United.

So?

Well, the kids today, for whom football didn’t exist before the Premier League, wouldn’t understand of course but for those of us of a certain vintage (and that includes most of the Kickers squad) for whom live football came around but once a year on FA Cup final day, we can appreciate the excitement viewers must have felt – seeing the lush green of the pitch and the vibrant red, claret and blue of the strips. What an innovation! What a format! An new era beckoned….

Get to the point…

And talking of new eras…

Oh here we go…

Life’s full of disappointments isn’t it? Dickiebliss’s list currently stands at:

  • Never did get that call from Chelsea to be their new star striker
  • Never did form that band and become a global rock star
  • Still can’t grow a proper beard

Well add to that list the crushing disappointment of the Kickers doomed tilt at the staff 6-a-side football league title of 2012.

It’s July 2012 and in the UK everyone’s thoughts are turning to the great sporting spectacle appearing over the horizon, that celebration of competition, that festival of sporting deeds…no not the Olympics (we’re all bored of them already). No, I mean the climax of the Staff Intramural 6-a-side league and specifically those legends of  athleticism the Kickers!

The Kickers 4-0 Bosman Utd

You can’t have failed to notice that there was a big game on last weekend – it featured a team who played their previous match without a recognised striker on the pitch and instead deployed a “false No 9”; a team who many have labelled as boring and predictable such is the relentlessness of their particular brand of football; a team who have created a new style of football never before witnessed and a team that ran out 4-0 winners in a laughably one-sided game……no not Spain and their namby -pamby “tika taka” nonsense! I refer of course to The Kickers who trounced Bosman Utd last Friday lunchtime.

2012 will always be a special year in this blogger’s heart as my beloved Chelsea finally got their hands on that infernal Champions League trophy – and no I didn’t care that it was by playing some of the most defensive football ever witnessed to thwart the patently more gifted and stylish Barcelona and Bayern Munich teams.

A mere two weeks after their meltdown at the hands of this week’s opponents that precipitated Gary Moore to fall on his sword, the Kickers were not only back but on the march. A sensational 2-1 victory against the much touted Sports centre team – this was one of those games where the scoreline belied the quality of the performance. The Kickers played with composure, intelligence and belief – three ingredients sadly missing a fortnight previous.
